Former Keiyo South MP Daniel Ronoh testified in an Eldoret Court about his involvement in a 14-year-old real estate deal involving a prime residential plot for a senior Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) employee based in Nairobi.

The property, located in the Elgon View estate, is currently valued at Ksh. 20 million. Ronoh explained to Presiding Lands Court Judge Elijah Obaga that he conducted due diligence before connecting the buyer, Godfrey Ofunya Omondi, with the property owner, Julie Kandie, amidst an ongoing legal dispute over ownership.

Ronoh admitted that he has been facilitating property transactions for clients through his company, Maestro Properties Limited, which has offices in Eldoret and Nairobi. He recalled that Omondi approached him in March 2010, requesting assistance in acquiring a plot in Eldoret, and he promptly accepted the task, expecting a commission from the deal.

During his testimony, Ronoh revealed that he paid Kandie Ksh. 800,000, which he received from the senior KRA officer, to initiate the transfer of ownership. However, he shocked the court by stating that he could not provide evidence for the Ksh. 400,000 he claimed to have paid in cash, nor could he confirm the payment of the remaining Ksh. 400,000 through Kandie’s bank account.

Kandie has strongly denied selling the plot to the KRA officer, describing the entire process as fraudulent. Justice Obaga has instructed the Uasin Gishu Land Registrar to appear in court on September 26, 2024, to clarify the ownership of the disputed property.

To prevent controversy, legislators advise a worldwide tender for the position of Auditor General.
