Residents of Mukuru kwa Njenga slums are assessing their losses after a fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, August 6. The blaze destroyed homes and churches near Muhindi Mweusi Supermarket.

The flames ignited around 1 a.m., and despite residents’ attempts to control the fire, it spread over a large area. The exact value of the damaged property is still unknown, but locals reported that ten blocks were reduced to ashes during the incident.

This fire comes just a week after traders at Toi Market suffered losses when another blaze consumed their goods. Four individuals, including a child, were reported to have been burnt beyond recognition while trying to save their belongings from the flames.
