The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced that it has implemented contingency measures to ensure that airport operations continue smoothly despite a strike notice issued by aviation workers.

In a statement released on Friday, KAA affirmed that discussions are ongoing with its management, the Ministries of Labor and Social Protection, and the Kenya Aviation Workers Union to reach an agreement.

“We are dedicated to upholding the highest service standards for all passengers and stakeholders at our airport facilities nationwide,” KAA stated.

This development follows the main aviation union’s announcement of a planned strike starting next Monday. The Kenya Aviation Workers Union, which represents airport employees, objects to a proposed agreement with India’s Adani Airport Holdings to develop Kenya’s largest airport.

The union argues that the deal could lead to job losses and the introduction of non-Kenyan workers.

They have urged the government to cancel what they describe as the “unlawful intended sale of JKIA (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport) to Adani Airport Holdings of India,” as detailed in their seven-day strike notice issued on Monday.
