Carlos Alcaraz issued an apology on Saturday, following his outburst the previous day during a second-round loss to Gael Monfils at the ATP and WTA Cincinnati Open.

The Spanish star, who holds both the French Open and Wimbledon titles, let his frustration boil over, smashing his racquet in anger during the match. Alcaraz described the 4-6, 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 defeat as the “worst match” of his career.

On Instagram, Alcaraz addressed his behavior, expressing regret and looking ahead to making a positive comeback at the US Open.

“I want to apologise for my attitude yesterday, it was not good and that should not happen on court,” he posted.
“I’m human, the nerves had accumulated and sometimes it is very tough to control when there is that tension. I will work so that it doesn’t happen again.”
