President William Ruto praised the new Attorney General, Dorcas Oduor, following her swearing-in at State House, Nairobi on Tuesday. Ruto emphasized that Oduor’s appointment was based on her competence, not merely her gender.
He expressed strong confidence in her ability to fulfill her duties effectively and anticipated that she would bring pride to the country through her performance.
“Many people have said you become the first woman in independent Kenya to become Attorney General. This appointment is not just about you being a woman, it’s about you being competent. I am very confident that on account confidence and ability to deliver, you deserve to serve in this position.
“I am very confident and clear that you will not only make us as a country proud but also you will demonstrate what has always been said that what a man can do, maybe a woman can do better. Many people will be watching,” the President said.
He encouraged Oduor to work in collaboration with other agencies to make sure the representation of government and the people is timely and appropriate.
“It is very important Madam Attorney General that you work with all the other agencies to make sure that responsibility and legal representation to the government and people of Kenya is timely, robust and appropriate.”
Oduor will be Kenya’s first female Attorney General. She succeeds Justin Muturi, who was reassigned to the Ministry of Public Service in President Ruto’s new Cabinet.
