Apple’s latest iPhone, featuring the new A18 chip, is set to be unveiled at an event on Monday. This chip is developed using Arm’s newest V9 design, according to a report by the Financial Times on Saturday.
Apple will host its fall event on September 9 at its headquarters in Cupertino, California, where it is expected to reveal a range of new iPhones along with updates to other devices and applications.
In September of the previous year, Apple signed a long-term agreement with Arm, extending beyond 2040, which marks a significant boost for Arm’s chip technology. Arm had announced in July that its V9 chip architecture now accounts for 50% of smartphone revenue.
Arm holds the intellectual property for the computing architecture used in most of the world’s smartphones and licenses this technology to Apple and many other companies. Apple incorporates Arm’s technology into its custom chips for iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Apple and Arm have a longstanding relationship, dating back to 1990 when Apple was one of the founding partners of Arm. Although Apple’s “Newton” handheld computer, which used an Arm-based processor, was not successful, Arm went on to dominate the mobile phone chip market due to its efficient power consumption, which helps extend battery life.
