A 22-year-old Bodaboda operator, Denis Etyang, who has been diagnosed with kidney and liver failure, is seeking help from the government and well-wishers to raise Sh2 million for a specialized operation at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

Etyang, who was abandoned by his family after they learned about his condition, is now relying on the generosity of his neighbors. They have been organizing monthly harambees to support his medication and upkeep.

“I used to support myself when I was still a boda boda operator, but ever since the sickness became chronic, I depend on well-wishers,” Etyang said. “I sold my motorbike, but what I got was just a drop in the ocean. I am left alone; please save my life,” he added.

Etyang spends Sh50,000 on medication each month, which forced him to sell his motorbike, a source of income that only lasted two months.

Neighbors Zacchaeus Papa and Benjamin Omukaka emphasized the urgency of Etyang’s situation, noting that he has a promising future. “Etyang was abandoned by his family because of the cost of these monthly drugs.

He has been fully supported by neighbors and well-wishers,” Omukaka said. “That is why we are appealing to anyone who can help to support our brother for an operation at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital or in India, through the paybill below,” he added.

Numerous studies reveal that awareness of kidney disease is low among the general population. Doctors are encouraging early detection as a crucial step to prevent kidney disease, its progression, and related complications.
