The Uasin Gishu County Assembly has approved a motion to form an ad-hoc committee to investigate the issues raised in a petition filed by three worker’s unions regarding a dysfunctional medical insurance cover.

The Kenya County Government Workers Union, Kenya Union of Clinical Officers, and Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers had submitted the petition to the County Assembly, seeking an inquiry into the problems they are facing with their insurance service provider, Trident Insurance Company.

While introducing the motion, Majority Leader Julius Sang highlighted that the petition met the criteria set by the Uasin Gishu County Petition Procedure Act and the assembly’s standing orders. He outlined that the ad-hoc committee’s terms of reference include examining the full procurement process of the medical insurance provider, determining the duration of the insurance cover contract, and reviewing the contract period among other relevant issues.
