On Thursday morning, a standoff occurred when Marikiti traders clashed with police in a series of running battles. The traders had barricaded parts of the road leading to Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) to protest a planned relocation to Kagundo Market.

The protest involved burning tires on the roads, effectively blocking traffic to and from the Nairobi CBD. Jogoo Road and Haile Selassie Road were particularly affected.

At the time of reporting, no vehicles coming from the direction of Jogoo Road could access the city center.
