A Nairobi court has acquitted former Laikipia East MP Antony Mutahi Kimaru in a case where he was accused of stealing a title deed for a parcel of land valued at Sh18.5 million in 2016.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochoi announced the acquittal, stating that the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. “I hereby acquit the accused person under Section 215 of the Criminal Procedure Code since the prosecution has failed to prove the charges before this court,” the magistrate declared.

Mutahi was charged with stealing the title deed for land parcel LR NO. 10422/13, located in Nanyuki Township and valued at Sh18.5 million. The document, which was in the custody of George Oraro Odinga and David Morton Silverstein—executors of the estate of the late Livia Le Poer Trench—was allegedly stolen from the Ministry of Lands at Ardhi House in Nairobi on August 5, 2016. Mutahi also faced charges of forgery, making false documents, and fraudulently obtaining land registration.
