Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has asserted that the Mt Kenya region is not lacking in qualified leaders for national positions. In her recent address, she emphasized that the region boasts many seasoned and proven leaders and that no position should be considered reserved for any individual.
Waiguru also highlighted President William Ruto’s earlier hint that the UDA party might consider fielding a woman running mate in future elections to adhere to the two-thirds gender rule. She mentioned that President Ruto had shown confidence in her by appointing her to represent him at an event attended by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
During her visit to Mwea, Waiguru showcased her administration’s achievements, including the construction of 18 modern markets and the national government’s investment in 11 more. She also noted commitments to equip the Kimbimbi and Kianyaga Level 4 Hospitals and improve road networks across the county.
Waiguru stressed the importance of regional unity and collaboration in supporting Ruto’s development agenda, advising against divisive politics. She urged residents to vote for leaders focused on development in the upcoming 2027 elections and to support candidates with tangible achievements.
Additionally, Waiguru has received support from the Njuri Ncheke Council in Meru for higher political ambitions. Meanwhile, 48 MPs from the region have endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as their leader, citing a need for better representation of their developmental concerns and priorities.
