Veteran Bongo Flava artiste, Mr. Blue, has opened up about how the pressures of fame led him down a dark path of drug addiction.
Known for his husky voice and hit songs such as Mapoz, Mr. Blue’s candid revelation offered a glimpse into the personal struggles that often accompany celebrity life.
In a recent interview with BBC, Mr. Blue shared that before fame, he had never touched drugs. However, things changed drastically when he became known in the music industry.
“When I started in music, I was just a kid and I didn’t have any friends. But when I became famous, everyone wanted to be my friend and pretended to love me. I’m goodhearted, so I let people into my circle without judgment. Someone when someone lit up (cigarettes or bhang) next to me, it became easy for me to join in. Soon alcohol became a regular part of my life, to the point where I forgot attending to my studio sessions. All I did was indulge in drug abuse,” Mr. Blue confessed.
The rapper who recently remixed his one-time hit ‘Mapoz’ featuring Diamond Platnumz and Jay Melody, says when he finally hit rock bottom and his fortune from music started to dwindle, the friends too began disappearing one by one.
“I was a calm, collected young man when I started my music career. But I was ruined by the people around me, not by myself. I was led astray by those I trusted. By the time I finally realized what was happening, I had gone broke. And then, one by one, the friends who claimed to love me began to disappear. But I thank God for guiding me through it. having lost my mother while I was still young, finding a wife, and later on, becoming a father brought me to sanity because now I had new responsibilities to worry about.”
