President William Ruto has called on the international community to bolster its support for Haiti’s recovery, stressing the need for sustained security and socio-economic transformation in the country. Speaking at the Leader-Level Meeting of the ECOSOC Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti, Ruto underscored the significance of global action in ensuring Haiti’s long-term stability and recovery.

Having recently visited Port-au-Prince, Ruto expressed optimism following his meetings with Haitian political leaders and the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission personnel. He noted the mission’s early successes, including the reopening of Port-au-Prince’s airport, the resumption of flights, and the retaking of the city’s main hospital. “These actions are already helping to restore Haiti’s economy and hope,” he remarked.

Ruto urged the United Nations Security Council to renew the MSS mandate, emphasizing that continued global support is essential for further progress. He proposed new funding mechanisms for the mission and called on international partners to provide additional resources, including money, equipment, and logistics.

“To secure Haiti’s future, it is imperative that we continue to work together,” he stated, while commending the contributions of the United States, Canada, and other supporting nations. The Kenyan President also praised Haiti’s leadership for its commitment to advancing the MSS mission and guiding the country towards socio-economic transformation.
