Bodaboda riders in Emabungo market, Luanda, Vihiga County, are urging local leaders to address the poor state of feeder roads in the area.

Led by Johannes Miruka, chairman of the Luanda bodaboda riders, they specifically pointed out the Maseno School-Emabungo market feeder road and a damaged bridge along the Emabungo market-Ebulako route.

“These issues not only harm our business but also pose security risks,” Miruka said. “When it rains, we can’t transport customers along this road. The bridge near Ebulako Primary School is a danger to both residents and students.”

He added that they have raised these concerns with both county and national leaders but have yet to receive any meaningful assistance.

Residents warned that they would soon resort to planting banana tubers on the road in protest if the issues are not addressed. Another rider voiced frustration over the neglect of Emabungo town, despite local business operators paying taxes to the Vihiga county government. “There’s no toilet in this market; we have to find a thicket to relieve ourselves,” he said.

The riders are also calling for increased police presence in the market, as criminals take advantage of the poor road conditions during the rainy season to ambush and rob them, sometimes causing serious injuries.
