Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has called for the arrest of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of undermining and defying the Presidency. Speaking at a rally in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County on Saturday, Atwoli criticized Gachagua for allegedly not living up to his promises of loyalty to President William Ruto.

“You took the Bible and lied to God… ‘Oh God, help me run the government,’ but now you are contradicting government policies while still sitting in the Cabinet and the National Security Committee,” Atwoli said. “You should be arrested. No country can tolerate such behavior. That mountain belongs to all of us; it’s called Mt. Kenya.”

Atwoli’s remarks come amidst reports that National Assembly members plan to table an impeachment motion against the DP next Tuesday. On Friday, House leaders told Citizen TV that the motion was progressing, with nearly 300 signatures collected.

“I can confirm that the signature collection has reached 260 by Thursday evening and is now nearing 300,” said National Assembly Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya.

Gachagua and his allies have accused President Ruto of secretly supporting the impeachment effort, claiming that MPs were being offered Ksh.5 million to back the motion. While addressing Mwea residents in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua said Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Senator James Murango had rejected bribes to support the move.

“Njeri was asked to sign for my impeachment and offered Ksh.5 million, but she refused. Senator Murango was also approached but declined,” Gachagua revealed.
