A family in Murinduko ward, Mwea East sub-county, Kirinyaga County, is mourning the loss of their 5-year-old son, who was tragically hit by a police vehicle. According to the boy’s mother, Purity Wangechi, the accident occurred on Friday as her son was returning home from school along the Difathas-Togonye road.
“I was informed about the accident by his grandmother, who told me that my child had been rushed to Kimbimbi sub-county hospital by the driver of the police vehicle,” Wangechi said.
The boy’s grandmother, Mellyn Wambui, expressed her sorrow, stating that her grandson was very obedient, and she was still struggling to process the tragedy.
The driver of the vehicle, which is assigned to Itangi police station, initially took the boy to Difatha health centre but was advised to transfer him to Kimbimbi sub-county hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The family is now calling for justice. Mwea-East sub-county Police Commander Mohammed Jarson confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has been launched. “It is unfortunate. We promise the family will get justice,” he said.
The boy’s body has been taken to Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus, where it awaits a postmortem.
