Political meltdown is engulfed in tension as the area considers moving

Tensions in the Mount Kenya region are intensifying as political divisions deepen, with the debate over Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s potential impeachment at the forefront.

In a significant development, elders from the Njuri Ncheke of Tharaka Nithi and the Kiama Kia Muembu of Embu have raised concerns about President William Ruto’s silence amid growing calls from some MPs for Gachagua’s removal. These MPs seem to be aligning themselves with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, who has gained support from various factions in the region.

Addressing the press in Embu, Njuri Ncheke leaders, led by Mutegi Kiugo, warned that such political moves could destabilize both the region and the nation, urging President Ruto to break his silence and address the escalating situation. They emphasized that Gachagua was chosen as Ruto’s running mate on merit, making the current discord particularly troubling.

“There’s no need for an impeachment to elevate Kindiki,” the elders remarked, noting that Kindiki already holds a significant government position. They also expressed their willingness to mediate between the conflicting parties to restore peace and promote development in the region.

This internal power struggle reflects deeper political shifts. Kindiki’s endorsement by Njuri Ncheke elders signals a changing dynamic, as over 2,000 elders from Meru and Tharaka Nithi recently declared him their new political kingpin, effectively sidelining Gachagua.
