Nairobi City Thunder captain Griffins Ligare expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance following two preseason victories. Speaking after their weekend win against a South Sudan select team at Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi, the skipper shared his thoughts.
“We’ve had a strong start to our preseason games, and our focus is on ensuring we integrate everyone, including our new signings, so we’re all in sync,” Ligare stated.
The usually soft-spoken captain also praised the quality of opposition they’ve encountered so far.
“We’re pleased to have faced different challenges, which tested us in new ways and highlighted the need to strengthen our defense if we want to be a top team. Experiencing that in preseason will help us keep improving during our practices as we prepare for the season,” Ligare added.
The Premier League champions secured a 101-79 victory over the Kenya-based Sudanese players, following their previous week’s win against Kenya All Stars, where they triumphed 111-83 at the same venue.
New signings Tylor Okari Ongwae, Derrick Ogechi, and William Davis contributed a combined 62 points, showcasing their skills and proving why they were worthy additions to the team.
Thunder dominated throughout the game, winning the first two quarters 29-28 and 20-19, heading into halftime with a narrow 49-47 lead. After the break, they extended their control, taking the third and fourth quarters 21-13 and 31-19, sealing a 101-79 victory at the final buzzer.
