Kenyan Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has been named the brand ambassador for the House of Chanel, following her attendance at the Spring-Summer 2025 Ready-to-Wear show in France on Tuesday.

The luxury fashion brand stated that Nyong’o’s appointment highlights their commitment to embracing diversity and inclusivity. Nyong’o took to Instagram to share the news, expressing her gratitude for the role. “I am deeply honoured to share that I am now a global brand ambassador for the House of Chanel. It was wonderful to attend their Spring-Summer 2025 Ready-to-Wear at the Grand Palais today. Merci beaucoup @chanelofficial!” she wrote on Tuesday.

Nyong’o also voiced her confidence in bringing about positive change in the fashion industry through her new role. “The message that I bring naturally and deliberately to the role is that things have changed. And we don’t want them to go back to what they once were,” she said in an interview with AP News.

Her appointment follows Chanel’s efforts to address previous criticisms regarding inclusivity, which led to the appointment of Fiona Pargeter as the brand’s first Head of Diversity and Inclusion in 2020 and British-Indian Leena Nair as the global chief executive in 2022.
