Lillian Biwott, a female administration police officer accused of fatally shooting her husband 12 times at their home in Kimumu estate, Eldoret, has told the court that she acted in self-defense. Appearing before Justice Reuben Nyakundi, Biwott explained that on October 14, 2023, her husband, Victor Kipchumba, had threatened to kill their four children. She claimed that both her husband and her house help had informed her of his intentions, with Kipchumba reportedly making calls to unknown persons indicating he planned to harm the children.

Biwott recounted that upon returning to their bedroom, her husband, armed with a knife, became violent and began assaulting her. According to her testimony, the couple argued for about an hour before the situation escalated. She said Kipchumba attempted to snatch her official AK-47 rifle, prompting her to shoot him in self-defense. She expressed remorse, telling the court that she prayed for forgiveness after realizing her husband was dead.

Biwott described Kipchumba, a matatu driver, as an abusive and violent man who regularly insulted and mistreated her, even in front of their children. She maintained that if she had not acted, her husband would have killed her.

The tragic incident occurred on the night of October 9, 2023, at their rental house along the Eldoret-Iten highway in Uasin Gishu County. Since her arrest, Biwott has been held at the Eldoret GK Remand Prison, having been denied bond due to security concerns. Justice Nyakundi has scheduled the continuation of the case for October 9, when the prosecution is expected to close its case.
