The German Embassy in Nairobi has announced a temporary halt in the processing and issuance of visas due to a power outage that has severely impacted its IT systems, particularly in the consular and visa sections. In a statement released on Wednesday, the embassy explained that both the power outage and a failure in its backup system have contributed to this disruption.

The embassy stated that no visa applications can currently be processed, but efforts are being made to contact applicants with upcoming travel plans to inform them of the situation. The embassy is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore normal operations as soon as possible.

This disruption comes at a time when there is expected to be an increase in Kenyans seeking visas to travel to Germany, following the signing of a Labour Mobility Agreement between Kenya and Germany. This agreement, reached during President William Ruto’s visit to Germany, aims to provide skilled Kenyans with job opportunities in the European nation.
