AirAsia X (AAX) has announced the launch of its first-ever direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Nairobi, set to commence on November 15, 2024. This strategic partnership between AAX and the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) aims to boost tourism and economic ties between Kenya and Asia by providing enhanced connectivity between the two regions. The new route, which will operate four times a week, is expected to increase passenger traffic from the Asia-Pacific region, especially from key markets like India, China, and Japan, which collectively brought over 320,000 visitors to Kenya in 2023.
KTB CEO June Chepkemei highlighted the significance of this route in positioning Kenya as a top global destination for Asian travelers, while AAX CEO Benyamin Ismail emphasized the airline’s goal of linking Asia and Africa, with Kenya serving as a gateway for African tourism. In addition to benefiting Kenya’s tourism industry, the route will offer Kenyan travelers easier access to major Asian destinations via Kuala Lumpur.
AAX and KTB plan to collaborate on joint marketing initiatives to ensure a smooth travel experience for passengers. To celebrate the launch, AAX is offering promotional fares, with one-way tickets from Nairobi to Kuala Lumpur starting at KES 25,788 (USD 199) for Economy and KES 64,665 (USD 499) for Premium Flatbed service.
