A family in Nyasio, North Mugirango, Nyamira County, is living in fear following the mysterious deaths of six of their relatives in the past year, with five of them dying in just the last month. The latest tragedy struck last week when Jane Nyaboke, 67, and her two daughters, aged 39 and 45, went missing, and their bodies were later found dumped in separate thickets within the county. The family fears they may be targeted by unknown individuals and is urging the police to expedite investigations to ease their concerns.

For the sixth time in less than a year, the family of Mzee Hamisi is mourning the loss of yet another relative who died under mysterious circumstances. A somber atmosphere of fear, grief, and uncertainty has enveloped the home, as friends and relatives gather once more to offer their condolences. The deaths have left the community puzzled and searching for answers.

“In the past one year, six people have died here, and in the last one month, five people,” said Peter Moturi, a relative.

Bilhar Kerubo, another family member, added, “I am pleading with the government to help us because people are being killed like chickens.”

The recent deaths of a mother and her two daughters have deepened the mystery, shocking the village. Jane Nyaboke and her daughter Edna left home to run errands, but when night fell, they never returned. As the family searched for the two, they learned that Jane’s other daughter, Lorna Kerubo, had also gone missing. All three women’s bodies were found dumped in different thickets, bringing the number of family members lost in the last month to five.

“I went to the mortuary and found that it was true—my mother and sister had passed away. My cousin, another cousin, and her child… and now my mother and two sisters have died in mysterious ways,” Moturi lamented.

Fred, another relative, explained, “Mama and Edna left here on Monday to visit their grandmother, but they never arrived. On Tuesday, Lorna left her home for her errands, and she also went missing.”

The family fears they are being targeted by unknown individuals aiming to wipe out the entire family and are frustrated with the police for not solving the case.

“Police are not doing their job as they should. Some people have been killed right here at home, and the police aren’t following up. Even when they conduct post-mortems, it’s a dead end,” said Abdalla Hamisi, a family member.
