Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made a heartfelt plea for forgiveness during a church service at the National Prayer Altar in Nairobi, ahead of a crucial impeachment vote in Parliament. Addressing President William Ruto, Members of Parliament (MPs), and the Kenyan public, Gachagua expressed remorse if he had offended anyone during his tenure as Deputy President.

In a direct message to President Ruto, he asked for forgiveness, acknowledging that his zeal for work may have caused friction. He extended this apology to his spouse, Dorcas Gachagua, for any potential missteps in her advocacy for the boy child, asking for forgiveness if she had upset anyone.

Addressing MPs, Gachagua referenced his controversial “shareholders” remarks, which he claimed were meant to acknowledge those who supported the Kenya Kwanza government. He explained that any discomfort caused by these statements was unintentional and asked MPs to forgive him.

The impeachment motion, introduced in Parliament, accuses Gachagua of gross misconduct and constitutional violations, including disrespecting the president and allegedly accumulating wealth unlawfully since taking office. Gachagua, however, denies these allegations, describing the motion as politically motivated due to his support for his Mt. Kenya political base.

As public participation in the impeachment process continues, many Kenyans have expressed dissatisfaction not only with Gachagua but also with President Ruto’s administration, calling for accountability and improved governance.
