The government has announced that as of Sunday, October 6, a total of **12,704,548** Kenyans have registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA).

SHA chairperson Abdi Mohammed stated that this figure includes verified citizens who were previously part of the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and have successfully transitioned. He also mentioned that **1,442 contracted health facilities** have already signed contracts to provide SHA services to registered members. These facilities, which encompass all contracted Level 2 to Level 6 health facilities, can be found on the [sha.go.ke](http://sha.go.ke) portal.

During an engagement on Sunday, Mohammed noted that the Private and Faith-Based Hospitals Association has agreed to sign and submit their contracts by Tuesday. He clarified that all outstanding bills incurred under the NHIF will be settled after verification by a joint committee led by the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Medical Services.

Mohammed emphasized, “We are committed to ensuring a seamless transition to the much-contested new health scheme so that Kenyans receive quality healthcare services.” Registrations for the new scheme are still ongoing, and citizens can enroll by dialing *147# or visiting [www.sha.go.ke](http://www.sha.go.ke) or [www.afyayangu.go.ke](http://www.afyayangu.go.ke). He encouraged applicants to include their dependents to ensure they also benefit from healthcare services.
