Air France announced on Wednesday that it had initiated an internal investigation after one of its planes flew over Iraq on October 1 during an Iranian missile strike on Israel. The flight in question, AF662, was traveling from Paris to Dubai and was passing through a designated air corridor in southern Iraq when the attack occurred.

According to the airline, the plane left Iraqi airspace 15 minutes later, at a time when the airspace had not yet been closed to commercial traffic. The closure came into effect at 1756 GMT.

“Without waiting for instructions from the Iraqi authorities, Air France decided to suspend the overflight of Iraqi airspace by its aircraft from 1700 GMT,” the company said in a statement.

Air France added that another flight returned to Paris, while a third flight, from Singapore to Paris, made an extra stop in Delhi to refuel for an alternative route. The incident was first reported by TF1 Info.
