The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has urged residents in 20 counties across the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley to prepare for rainfall in the upcoming five days. According to a weather advisory issued on Saturday, October 12, 2024, through Wednesday, October 16, 2024, rainfall is anticipated in the morning, afternoon, and evening in various locations.
The counties affected include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo-Marakwet. Other counties on the list are Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
In the detailed 5-day forecast, the meteorologists indicated that the rainfall would likely be accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas. They expect maximum temperatures to reach 30 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures could drop to 10 degrees Celsius.
For Nairobi and its surroundings, the forecast suggests minimal chances of rainfall, with any precipitation expected primarily at night in select areas. Kenya Met explains that the weather will be marked by cloudy conditions, transitioning to sunny intervals for most of the day over the next five days. Counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi are noted to have similar weather patterns to Nairobi.
In the coastal region, the situation differs from the previous week, as the weatherman has advised residents to brace for rainfall. The forecast indicates that showers are likely in the morning, afternoon, and evening, though temperatures are expected to remain relatively high despite the chance of rain.
