Residents of Eldoret have expressed their support for the nomination of Interior Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President, following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua. On Friday, locals praised Kindiki’s performance in the Interior docket over the past two years and commended President William Ruto for selecting him to take up the role of Deputy President.

Community leaders, including Benjamin Leting and Abraham Cheruiyot, highlighted Kindiki’s academic credentials and experience, stating that he is well-suited to assist President Ruto in governing the country. “Kindiki is a quiet man who focuses on his work and has a passion for serving Kenyans. We applaud the president for picking him as the new DP,” Leting said. Cheruiyot added, “That position was for Kindiki originally, and his elevation is a plus for the president.”

Women leaders like Roseline Kigen expressed some disappointment that a woman was not chosen but acknowledged that Kindiki is a strong candidate supported by many Kenyans. “Even from recent opinion polls, we have noted that many Kenyans prefer Kindiki, so the President has done well to go for the CS,” Kigen said, urging the government to prioritize pressing issues like the high cost of living and education reforms.

Business community representatives, such as Stephen Mugwira, also emphasized the need for Ruto and Kindiki to focus on strengthening the economy.

Kindiki’s nomination has been forwarded to the National Assembly for approval, with MPs expected to vote on the appointment soon. Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the submission during a special session on Friday.
