Mombasa Governor and ODM deputy party leader Abdulswamad Nassir has emphasized the need for unity among leaders and members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Speaking in Kwale during a meeting with delegates in preparation for the upcoming grassroots elections, Nassir highlighted that the party’s strength lies in its unity.

“Unity is our strength,” Nassir said, stressing that the spirit of togetherness will be crucial to ensuring the elections are conducted fairly and peacefully. He urged both leaders and delegates to work collaboratively, supporting one another during this key phase of party reorganization.

The meeting drew leaders and representatives from various counties, as part of preparations for the grassroots elections scheduled for next month. These elections are pivotal for ODM as it looks to strengthen its local support base ahead of future national and county-level political activities.

Several leaders echoed Nassir’s call for unity and strong leadership, underscoring the importance of maintaining party stability. Among the attendees were ODM National Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, Kilifi Woman Representative Gertrude Mbeyu, and Kwale Woman Representative Fatuma Masito. Former Kwale Women Representative Zuleikha Hassan, ODM Kwale Chairperson Hassan Mwanyoha, and several Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Kwale, Mombasa, and Homa Bay counties were also present.

The leaders expressed their support for a transparent and inclusive election process, highlighting the significance of building strong grassroots leadership structures that reflect the party’s commitment to the people.

This unity call comes shortly after ODM’s top leadership met in Mombasa to ratify decisions made by the party’s Central Management Committee. Among these decisions was the appointment of Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o as the acting party leader while Raila Odinga campaigns for the position of African Union Commission Chairperson. Additionally, Nassir, Governor Simba Arati, and Senator Godfrey Osotsi were confirmed as deputy party leaders.
