Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has cautioned Deputy President nominee Kithure Kindiki, warning that he could face the same fate as impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua if he doesn’t secure a formal agreement with President William Ruto. Speaking in Meru, Linturi expressed regret over trusting Ruto without negotiating a political deal, unlike other leaders.

“When negotiations are structured, you come out stronger and are not easily targeted,” Linturi said. He added that he and Gachagua made the mistake of trusting Ruto blindly, while other politicians secured agreements with the president through their political parties.

Linturi further criticized the notion of being “truthful,” stating that it had led to condemnation for people like himself, making it easy to remove him from the Cabinet and impeach Gachagua. He hinted at running for Meru Governor in the 2027 election, describing himself as a long-time politician who is currently jobless after being sacked from the Cabinet following Gen Z protests over the Finance Bill 2024. Linturi was previously cleared by the National Assembly after being implicated in a fake fertilizer scandal.
