The body of Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, the missing Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Della Anole Ward in Wajir, has been discovered in the Lake Yahud area in Wajir County, over a month after his disappearance. His family identified the mutilated body, which showed signs of extreme torture, beatings, and burns. It was reported that Ahmed’s eyes had been gouged out, adding to the horror of his death. Locals gathered at the morgue to identify the badly decomposed body, and many took to social media to express their grief.
Ahmed had been missing since his abduction on September 13, 2024. Investigations into his disappearance are ongoing, with police still to comment on the recent discovery. The High Court had earlier ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to provide protection for a key witness in a case related to the abduction. Justice Alexander Muteti also directed the agencies to submit an updated investigation report by October 7.
Senior superintendent of police Justus Imaana informed the court that the police had yet to obtain critical CCTV footage from key points along the suspected abduction route. Despite efforts, the Internet Crime Complaint Centre (IC3) denied assistance, and other sources had yet to provide footage. Imaana noted the complexity of the case, explaining that investigations are ongoing and unpredictable in terms of timeline. Additionally, the police have not received call data from mobile networks to help identify individuals Ahmed may have spoken to before the abduction.
Ahmed’s legal team, led by Danstan Omari and Law Society of Kenya (LSK) lawyer Hosea Manwa, criticized the progress of the investigation and called for more urgent action to bring those responsible to justice.
