National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has dismissed rumors that he intends to replace Kithure Kindiki as Interior Cabinet Secretary if Kindiki assumes the Deputy President office. Speaking in Rabai, Kilifi County, Ichung’wah emphasized that he has no interest in taking on any Cabinet Secretary position and is instead focused on delivering services to the residents of Kikuyu while serving as Majority Leader in the National Assembly.

He also clarified that his involvement in the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was for the sake of the nation, refuting claims of a personal vendetta against Gachagua. “There’s a leader who said that I should take up the Interior CS position. Let me tell him that I already have a duty that I’m performing and don’t want to confuse people. I led the front at the National Assembly during the impeachment motion, and it’s not because we hated one person; it’s because we loved development more,” Ichung’wah stated.

“I did not do it to secure another position. I am not interested in a CS position. I have a duty to the people of Kikuyu and at the National Assembly,” he added.
Ichung’wah’s name had surfaced among critics as a potential beneficiary of Gachagua’s impeachment, possibly stepping into the roles of either Deputy President or Interior CS. Known to be close to President William Ruto, Ichung’wah has not shied away from accusing Gachagua of sabotaging the nation in recent months.

President Ruto had forwarded Kindiki’s name to the National Assembly during a special sitting held on Friday after the Senate upheld Gachagua’s impeachment. The MPs unanimously approved Kindiki as the Deputy President nominee, paving the way for him to take on the country’s second-highest office.

However, this was interrupted when the courts issued conservatory orders, suspending the Senate impeachment and preventing Kindiki from assuming office until Gachagua’s case is heard and resolved.
