Bunyore Starlets chairman Moses Mabwa has confirmed that they are in discussions to bring in Ebwali FC coach Francis Muhambe on a temporary basis as they work to restructure the technical bench of the Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL) team. Muhambe is expected to replace Nick Aketch, who recently stepped down from his role as head coach just weeks after being appointed.
“I found out about Nick Aketch’s resignation through social media. While he has been difficult to reach, I did manage to speak with him on the phone this Tuesday, and I expect the stakeholders will be briefed on the way forward after this weekend,” Mabwa said.
With the team not scheduled to play this weekend due to the international break, Mabwa indicated that this time will be used to resolve the technical bench issues. “We’re aiming for our first win when we face Wadadia FC early next month, even though we’ll be playing away,” he added.
Mabwa expressed confidence that the experienced Muhambe could help turn the team’s fortunes around as they work toward a long-term solution for the technical bench. Bunyore Starlets have recently faced leadership challenges that contributed to a mass player exodus last season.
Aketch, who oversaw two losses during his brief tenure, attributed his resignation to an “antagonistic environment” and a lack of support. Under his leadership, the team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Trinity Starlets and a 2-0 loss to Police Bullets, leaving them at the bottom of the league table.
