Five people killed as lorry rams two cars in Kirinyaga

Five people have died on the spot and several seriously injured in an accident involving a lorry and two vehicles at Kibirigwi area along Sagana-Karatina Road in Ndia, Kirinyaga County.According to Kirinyaga West Sub-county Police Commander Moses Koskei, a lorry that was heading towards Sagana direction ferrying bags of maize lost control and hit two private vehicles that were heading towards Karatina direction.

“Five people have died on the spot while one was rushed to hospital by police officers,” the police boss said.

Koskei said investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the accident, noting that the driver of he lorry also sustained injuries.

Residents led by Githiru Wanjohi from Kibirigwi said the lorry overturned as it was speeding and spilt several bags of maize across the road.

The five bodies were taken to Kerugoya Mortuary pending identification.
