Migori County government has mooted a plan to register and pay for health insurance for vulnerable elderly persons so that they can access health services with ease.
Migori County Chief Officer for Medical Services Samwel Atula said the county Department of Health is working closely with the Department of Social Services to identify the elderly person who will be helped to access health insurance.
Atula, who was speaking in South Kamagambo where they participated in the construction of a house to an elderly woman said most of the elderly people have had challenges in accessing health services.
He said the elderly woman will soon benefit from health insurance that will be paid by the governor of Migori County.
His remarks were echoed by Peter Otianga who said that there are many elderly people in the society that need similar support and therefore urged the members of the public to come out and support the needy people.
Otianga also appealed to the national government to ensure that all the merited elderly people are registered in the cash transfer program.
The family of the elderly woman lauded the county government of Migori for supporting the elderly women who had been living in a dilapidated house.
