Liverpool have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to eight points, following a 2-2 draw at Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

The Reds had opened a seven-point gap with a 2-1 home win over Wolves last weekend.

With Arsenal not playing until Saturday afternoon, Arne Slot’s men had the chance to increase it.

And they began on a good note at Villa Park, with Diogo Jota pouncing on a poor backpass to find Mohamed Salah, who tapped into an empty net.

However, it was the hosts who were in the lead at half time.

Youri Tielemans fired in the equalizer, before Ollie Watkins’ header made it 2-1 on the stroke of half time.

Liverpool levelled through Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deflected effort in the second half.

The draw takes them up to 61 points, while Arsenal have 53 points and a game in hand.
