Inter Miami forward, Lionel Messi, will not travel for their match against Houston Dynamo on Sunday, a decision that has been made by coach Javier Mascherano.

According to Miami Herald, Messi is not injured, but is being protected.

This comes after Inter Miami played three matches within seven days this past week.

Mascherano’s men played a CONCACAF Champions Cup tie with Sporting Kansas City, and the MLS Matchday 1 clash against New York City FC.

Messi is however expected to play in their Round of 16 Champions Cup game against Jamaican side Cavalier SC on Thursday.

When asked about Messi’s health, Mascherano replied on Friday: “Leo is fine. He is OK.

“He will train normally like the rest of his teammates.”
