Allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have castigated the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) for reprimanding the former DP over his utterances in Meru County.

During the tour in Meru, Gachagua warned President William Ruto against visiting the county if Chief Justice Martha Koome is removed from office.

In a letter, NCIC Chairperson Dr. Samuel Kobia condemned Gachagua’s remarks, citing that they could fuel animosity between different communities.

Gachagua’s allies, however, did not take too kindly to NCIC’s letter and urged the Commission to conduct its duties without bias.

“NCIC should apply its mandate uniformly. Leaders like Gachagua have called out ethnic marginalization and should be protected by NCIC rather than being persecuted,” Edward Muriu, MP Gatanga, told the press.

Muriu also questioned why NCIC protected the president and instead pinned Gachagua as the scapegoat.

“NCIC should stop protecting the President,” he added.

The lawmakers were also irate at the ailing health sector due to the problem-riddled Social Health Authority (SHA).

According to Jane Kihara, MP Naivasha, graft has infiltrated SHA’s systems and hence hindering Kenyans from accessing Universal Health Coverage.

“Kuna ufisadi mwingi SHA, hiyo pesa inaliwa kiholela. Rais lazima atuambie ataturudishia lini pesa yetu yenye inakatwa,” she noted.

Geoffrey Wandeto, MP Tetu, echoed Kihara’s sentiments and claimed that the systems needed to operate SHA ought to have cost Ksh.4 billion as opposed to Ksh.100 billion as widely reported

“Community Health Promoters are protesting because of SHA. Its systems should have cost Ksh.4 billion instead of Ksh.100 billion. NHIF had its problems, but it was at least working,” he said.
