A road accident at Kolol area along the Iten-Kabarnet road left 12 people injured Thursday morning after a matatu veered off the road due to brake failure.

The Toyota matatu belonging to Trans-West Sacco was driven by Jairo Masika Kamasi, 59, with 11 passengers on board heading to Kabarnet from Iten.

Confirming the incident, Elgeyo Marakwet County Police Commander Peter Mulinge said the vehicle developed brake failure while descending from Kolol Viewpoint, causing the driver to lose control before overturning.

The driver sustained a compound fracture on his right leg, while the passengers suffered injuries ranging from cuts, bruises, dislocations, and fractures.

All the victims were rushed to Iten County Referral Hospital for treatment, while the extensively damaged vehicle was towed to Iten Police Station for further inspection.

Commander Mulinge urged motorists to observe road safety measures, especially along the steep and winding Iten-Kabarnet road.
