The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended suspects linked to a series of attacks and robberies witnessed along Thika Road and Mathare areas on Tuesday.

Motorists were attacked and robbed along the busy road when President William Ruto was touring Mathare areas as part of his Nairobi region tour.

In a statement on Thursday, DCI said that John Junior Oginga was apprehended along the highway and was escorted to Pangani Police Station.

He is said to have been armed with a knife when he attacked and robbed an unsuspecting individual of an Oppo A77S mobile phone valued at Ksh.28,000.

DCI added that some other 7 suspects who robbed members of the public of their phones and other valuables in Mathare Area 4 were also arrested.

They include Jared Nyanza, Darlin Lande, Daniel Okombe, Mike Robert, Elvis Otieno, Reagan Omondi and Mathenge Gachiri.

They were escorted to Muthaiga Police Station.

Seven brand-new shirts, believed to be stolen property were also recovered from the suspects.

DCI has asserted that it will ensure an intensified crackdown leads to the arrest of all those involved, maintaining that they are committed to restoring calm in the city.
