A police inspector has been sentenced to two consecutive one-year jail terms or pay a cumulative fine of Ksh.650,000 after being found guilty of corruption charges.

Inspector Susan Wambui Muiruri, the Officer-in-Charge of the Zimmerman Police Post, was fined Ksh.300,000 for each of two counts of corruption, with an additional mandatory fine of Ksh.50,000. In default, she will serve a year in prison for each charge.

The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court found that the officer had illegally detained suspects and solicited a bribe of Ksh.10,000 to facilitate negotiations between a complainant and a suspect in custody.

Further investigations revealed that she had unlawfully extorted Ksh.150,000 from the complainant.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has reiterated its call for public officials to uphold integrity, emphasizing that corruption undermines the rule of law, inflates the cost of living, cripples infrastructure development, and denies citizens access to justice.
