Chelsea could face a UEFA investigation if they secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.

The Blues will need to demonstrate a clear separation from Strasbourg if both clubs qualify.

The Ligue 1 side’s 4-2 victory over Lyon moved them to within a point of the Champions League places.

However, if Strasbourg secure a place in UEFA’s top competition, sacrifices might need to be made should Chelsea qualify as well.

This is due to increasingly complex regulations surrounding multi-club ownership.

BlueCo, Chelsea’s parent company, completed a takeover of Strasbourg last year.

Both teams will be permitted to compete in the same competition provided they meet a number of conditions set out by UEFA.

UEFA regulations stipulate that no single entity can have “control or influence” over more than one club participating in one of their club competitions.

It is standard practice for the governing body to launch an investigation into the ownership and off-field structures of both clubs in such cases.
