Kenya Sevens sensation Patrick Odongo continues to rise as one of the brightest stars in global rugby, after earning a call-up to feature in the inaugural Rugby Premier League (RPL) set for Mumbai, India from June 1 to June 15, 2025.
The highly anticipated league, which will take place at the Brihanmumbai Kreeda Ani Lalitkala, will feature six franchise teams and attract top talent from global Rugby 7s powerhouses including New Zealand, Fiji, South Africa, Argentina, USA, Great Britain, Kenya, and others.
Odongo, a consistent standout for Kenya in the HSBC World Sevens Series, the Challenger Series, and his club Daystar University, will play under the legendary Tomasi Cama the former New Zealand star — who will be coaching the Delhi Redz.
Kenya Rugby Union CEO Thomas Odundo lauded Odongo’s call up stressing that he deserves it more than anyone.
“It is an honor and a privilege to have one of our own players selected for this event, and perhaps no one deserves it more than Patrick. He has been consistent over the past two seasons in the Challenger Series, the HSBC Sevens and for his club, Daystar University,” he said.
Odongo’s inclusion among 30 marquee international players is a testament to his ever-growing influence in the world of Sevens rugby, and his call-up is seen as a major win for Kenyan rugby, further solidifying the country’s talent on the international stage.
The RPL is expected to be a groundbreaking tournament for rugby in Asia, and all eyes will be on Odongo as he carries the Kenyan flag into new territory.
Odongo helped Shujaa, under the tutelage of Kevin Wambua, finish second behind Fiji at the just concluded Singapore Sevens.
