Two people were swept away by raging floods in Isiolo as residents continue to count losses after property worth thousands of shillings was destroyed.

According to a police report, a son and driver to the local MCA were swept away at KMC Bridge while trying to cross on board a motor vehicle belonging to the MCA.

One of the occupants, who has been identified as Boniface Muriungi, managed to escape through the window.

The vehicle was swept nearly two kilometres downstream before being recovered, extensively damaged.

The heavy downpour experienced on Friday evening has wreaked havoc in the Soko Mjinga area, with residents trapped inside their houses for hours before evacuation was carried out.
