Police in Nyatike, Migori County are in search of a 62-year-old man accused of defiling his daughter aged 11 years.
The area Chief Eunice Adongo said the suspect is accused of defiling her daughter two times before the matter reached her office.
Adongo said the suspect fled home together with his wife (mother of the minor) and other family members to an unknown place, but the police are hunting him.
The area chief said the suspect escaped after he realised that the matter had reached her office and the police were following up on the matter.
She said the mother of the girl defended the suspect, saying that the suspect is innocent and she was not ready to be involved in the prosecution process because it might end her marriage with the suspect.
Adongo said the mother of the girl also escaped with the suspect to an unknown place.
The area chief said the victim has been subjected to various medical tests, and she is now in a safe space as they pursue the parents.
She warned against parents violating the rights of their children and also trying to waylay justice.
