The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the arrest of four people believed to be directly involved in the fatal shooting of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were.

According to a media statement released on Sunday, the arrests were made after investigators analyzed key leads.

The suspects were reportedly placed at the crime scene, which has helped authorities strengthen their case as they investigate the murder’s motive.

Police also recovered critical evidence believed to be linked to both the crime and the individuals involved in a coordinated operation, according to officials.

Some of those apprehended are alleged to be members of the “Mjahidin,” a well-known organised criminal gang linked to a string of armed robberies in Nairobi’s Eastlands.

“The NPS investigators and technical team are working tirelessly, leveraging their expertise to determine the motive behind the fatal shooting and bring all those involved to justice,” said NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga in a statement.

Were, a prominent political figure and community leader, was gunned down last week at a traffic stop in Nairobi.

His shooting death has sparked calls for swift justice and prompted concerns about rising urban insecurity.

The National Police Service (NPS) has urged Kenyans to refrain from speculation while investigations continue.

“We urge the public to remain calm… and to refrain from making comments that could hinder ongoing efforts,” the statement read.
