Two suspects linked to the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Were have been arrested.

According to police sources familiar with the investigations, the suspects were apprehended in a Saturday night operation led by a technical team from the operational support unit based at DCI headquarters.

The operation conducted in Nairobi’s Eastlands area also led to the seizure of a vehicle and three motorcycles believed to have been used to trail the late legislator before he was gunned down.

Police say the murder weapon is yet to be recovered.

The late MP was killed on Thursday at the Kenyatta Hospital roundabout on Ngong Road, Nairobi.

The late Were was reportedly shot at least four times at close range by a lone gunman who escaped using a sport bike waiting nearby.

Detectives who visited the last places where the MP spent his final day are now relying on CCTV footage and witness accounts from his driver and bodyguard in pursuit of the killers.

At the crime scene, three bullet holes pierced the passenger side, blood stains smeared the console box; indicating the aftermath of what police believe was a well-orchestrated murder plot, executed with deadly precision by a hired assassin.

On Thursday, detectives extended their probe to the National Assembly, where the late Kasipul MP Charles Were had spent most of his day attending to parliamentary duties.

According to reports, the MP left Parliament just before 7:00 p.m., accompanied by his driver and bodyguard.
