A section of leaders from Rift Valley region have called on the government to ensure former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is prosecuted over incitement.

The legislators referred to a recent media interview, where Gachagua likened the 2007 Post-election violence to a ‘Christmas party’ should the 2027 polls be conducted in an unfair manner.

Speaking during a church service in Kesses, Uasin Gishu county, the leaders noted that Gachagua has on various occasions divided Kenyans along tribal lines.

Senate Majority leader and Nandi Senator Aaron Cheruiyot called for the prosecution of Gachagua for spreading hate in the country.

“We want to see Rigathi Gachagua prosecuted for what he said. He is calling for Kenyans to fight, harm each other and kill each other. He should be called to record a statement, be arraigned in court,” said Cheruiyot.

Cheruiyot accused Gachagua of a deliberate intention to spread hate every time he appears on media interviews.

“You have made it a habit, Rigathi Gachagua, everytime you go for an interview your work is to defame our professionals. If you disagreed with William Ruto, sort it without dragging our children in your gossip and nonsense,” he said.

Kesses legislator Julius Ruto also castigated Gachagua, calling for his prosecution.

“We do not want our country to go back to where it was. We want CS Kipchumba Murkomen to take action on such people. They should record statements and answer why they want our country to head to the wrong direction,” he said.

“Uasin Gishu County went through a very difficult moment, we do not want to remember, nor someone thinking we can go back to the evil that happened,” added Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago.
