Five tourists of Indian origin have been confirmed dead while scores were injured in a grisly road accident that occurred at Gichaka village along the Nakuru-Ol-Joro Ork road in Nyandarua County.

It is reported that the tourists were travelling from Masaai Mara to Nyahururu in a mini bus when its brakes failed while descending a hill towards Ol-Joro Orok area.

The bus plunged into a ditch as the driver, who is among those who survived the accident was negotiating a corner near Uhuru Comprehensive school at Gichaka area.

The vehicle rolled several times before landing in a potato farm with its roof ripped off.

Stella Cherono, the County Police Commander for Nyandarua confirmed that the five died on the spot while other passengers were rescued and rushed to Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital. Others were taken to St Benedict hospital in Nyahururu and Nakuru.

A survivor told Citizen TV he heard a round bang only to find himself on a hospital bed.

At the Nyahururu County Hospital, doctors made frantic efforts to attend to the patients who had multiple injuries.
