Alan Shearer, a former Newcastle United attacker, has given his verdict on Liam Delap, insisting that the Chelsea summer signing is a little rough around the edges.
Chelsea signed Delap from Ipswich Town for £30m this summer.
The 22-year-old netted his first goal for the Premier League west London club in their FIFA Club World Cup 3-0 victory against ES Tunis on Wednesday.
Speaking about Delap on The Rest Is Football, Shearer said: “Once you go to a new club, the sooner you can get a goal, the better.
“I think Delap can be really pleased with the way he’s started his Chelsea career.
“He looked confident and the goal he took [against ES Tunis] as very well taken, full of belief.
“I haven’t changed my mind on him. I like him, I still think he’s rough around the edges a little bit, but he’s only going to get better.”
Chelsea’s next match is against Benfica in the Club World Cup Round of 16 tie on Saturday.
